I have a couple of Maxon units that work great for that purpose.
Range is up to 1/2 mile. They are small units with headsets.
Can be used with PTT switch or VOX and run on a 9 volt battery in
the 49mhz band. They are in excellent condition. You can have
the both of them for $110.00, which includes shipping. If you want them,
leave me email here and send check or money order to me:

Switch on while holding the RPT button. Note that it also drops both
bands into low power, which is a bit of a bummer.

I remember reading something about installing ham equipment in Saturns
before. I will have to try to remember where I read that. As I
remember, installing radios in Saturns can be difficult -especially
through the firewall. You might want to call Saturn too, because as I
remember, Saturn did not recommend installing any ham gear in their cars
and they will void your warrenty if you do. I think it was in QST about
a year ago. I'll have to look back and see if I can't find it. Good
luck -

To: ham-equip@ucsd.edu
1. Bencher lowpass filter Model YA-1. No box or instruction (there
is't much to it you put your transmitter on one side and antenn on
other side, that is). It is rated at 1.5KW continous and 5kw
peak. The unit is in very very excellent condition. Have been
used for less then a month (I recall purchasing it in June and
Using it until July of last year) $25 + Shipping.
2. AEA MorseMatic morse machine. It is not the new superduper model
but one of the first one. I purchased it from a hamfest for $50.
Haggled it down from $75. I think it is worth the price. It is
in very good condition. I have the manuals (they are kind of
photocopies as AEA used to do the business). I really think it is
very much worht $50. $50 + Shipping.
3. Archer 100 Watt Soldering Gun. I purchased it from Radio Shack
and realized that it it not enough for me and went and got a
Weller. However it is not bad for light duty work. You can't
beat it at the price of abosolutely free. Free + Shipping + Cost
of packing box(which can be from $1 - $3).
4. Yaesu MD-1C8 microphone. Mint condition. With box and
instruction. Used for 4 months. It cost $110 or so new. It is
available if you need for $55 + Shipping .
5. MFJ VHF 144-220 Mhz SWR/WATTMETER. I still have the instruction
manual and the unit is in mint condition. It is available free
for the asking + whatever shipping charges and inccur.
6. Yaesu YH-2 Headset. Let you use VOX on your FT-530. Kind of
sucks and it kept getting of my ears while I jogged. Your milage
may vary. However it is hard to argue with because it is
available free for the asking + my shipping charges sending it to
you.
7. E-DC-5 DC to DC converter. I bought it so I can use my FT-530
using Cigarette Lighter in my car. 12V DC - 6V DC. It is free
for the asking. Howerver you pay the mailman fee because it is
cheeper for me to throw it out otherwise :-).
8. Autek Research SWR meter. Very excellent condition. There is
small black mark during shipping (from the newspaper or something)
on the left side. It is being sold over $100 by Auteck. I have
misplaced the manual but it is not really needed. You plug the
powersuply and XMTR on IN Side and Antenna on Out side and you are
done. The manual also can be obtained from Auteck for $5 or so.
I found this meter order of magnitude accurate and useful then the
dinky stuff come with your rigs. $50 + Shipping.
9. MJF Delecux Versa Tuner II model MJF-949E. It is in ok shape with
some paint chipping on uppper right edge. Have hardly used it and
have misplaced its manual. It is fairly straight forward to use
but if you have not used antenna tuners before then you have to
call MFJ to get a new manual or ask your buddy about it. It is a
useful tool if you have real bad antenna situation. It is (was)
selling for $140 or so. $55 + Shipping.
10. I have around 150 feet or so of 8X coaxial cable and around 100 or
150 feet of flexweave antenna cable (great for dipoles, etc). I
don't know the exact length but above is the size I usually order.
It is free for the asking + Shipping.
11. Austin Antenna Ltd's 500C dual band (2m/70cm) antenna in motorola
mount. I have found it much better then Diamond antennas in flat
country. Its radiation angle is very low. It is a half wave for
70cm and offset fed 1/4 for 2m. Free + Shipping.
TERMS:
For items with price. By COD or Check. If you feel that any item is
not in the condition as I have described, just send me back and I will
refund your money - shipping. The prices are kind of firm and I have
priced them to sell quickly. At this time I won't like to recieve
mail saying something "Your Yasesu desk mic for $15 INCLUDING shipping
and COD charges". Right. Don't laugh as I have recieved offer like
that for my previous post of FT-530. If I could not sell some item, I
will respost it with lower price but at this time I will not entertain
any bargaining.
For free items I will send you the item and ask you to send me the
shipping charges. If it is in the padded envelope, it will be
whatever postage stamcps price + .75 for the envelope (envelopes go
from $.25 to $1.00 so I kind of make it $.75 because probably I will
be using thta size most). If the item is in box, you pay for the box.
Also, for free items I will wait for few days if more them one request
comes in. Someone pointed out that in my previous post, the people at
the west coast were late.
Also for the free items, there is a limit of one item per person. I
debated this for a while and I think it is kind of fair deal. These
are not meant to set up someones station but to provide some missing
item in their shack.
Also for my previous posts, I replied every person who responded to
me. In this case there are quite a few items so don't be offended if
I can't reply you individually or am a bit late replying anyone.
Happy hamming and I am sure to see you folks on the air again someday
in the future.

Covers 0.5MHz to 32MHz in 30 bands of 1MHz each with a dial accuracy on good
receivers of 100Hz. (Mine is 300Hz worst case. And it is that bad only because
I quit tweaking on it.)

Correct.
sorta....:
.1KHz and 1KHz bandwidths use the 2KHz mechanical filter and a single crystal
as a narrow band filter together.
The mechanical filters are 2KHz, 4KHz, 8KHz, and 16KHz.
>audio filter that goes to 100 Hz.
Two positions: wide band and 100Hz.

Last IF is 445KHz. Second to last IF is variable tuned 3.5Mhz to 2.5MHz, in that
order. For the lower frequencies the 1st IF is 17.5MHz to 25MHz.

Use it. Things are MUCH more stable that way.

Home brew it. That is what I did. I added a 7360 product detector and hang
AGC and a synchronous AM and FM demodulator. I also tweaked it with another
mixer so that I could cover an effective (sorta) 10KHz to 500KHz range, not
that I have found much of a use for it other than copying Russian trawlers
in the 450-500KHz range.
(I also added a pair of external audio filters with 8KHz bandwidth (plus 10KHz
notch) and 3.5KHz with 5KHz notch respectively. They work wonders for weak
signal work.)
(BTW - both the line and the local audio outputs are 600 ohm source impedances.
Either use phones, true 600 ohm speakers, or add a matching transformer to your
normal speaker. They made this 600 ohms output impedance with a clever use of
positive and negative feedbacks on the audio amplifier.)

The R-390A I have is a VERY good receiver. The only thing I would add to it at
this date is a quality noise blanker. It is remarkably sensitive and for a
vacuum tube set remarkably insensitive to intermodulation in actual use. I like
mine enough I just spent several days reworking some of my ancient mods and
renovating it to proper service. (It was a PAIN to get the VFO working. It had
started sticking very badly. I had to open it all the way up and use a quality
oil veru judiciously to get it back running properly free. Then the endpoint
adjust slug screw lost its head. So I had to develop an external tweaker
inductor to bring the endpoints into range. (The range was 4KHz too small.
So it proved possible to tweak using external terminals. <phew!>) I like it.
R-388 is not worth a fraction of the cost of a good R-390A. An R-390 is a
decent radio. But the difference between it and an R-390A is worth it. The
R-392 is a mobile stripped down version of the R-390 series. It is "OK".
All is IMHO of course.
