  91. supply ($90) and MFJ 300W tuner with crossed needle meter ($131), all from
  92. Ham Radio Outlet.  Are there any problems with the 725?  How's the rx and
  93. tx performance?  What about the power supply and ant. tuner:  are there
  94. any problems or better choices?

  180. I remember reading something about installing ham equipment in Saturns 
  181. before.  I will have to try to remember where I read that.  As I 
  182. remember, installing radios in Saturns can be difficult -especially 
  183. through the firewall.  You might want to call Saturn too, because as I 
  184. remember, Saturn did not recommend installing any ham gear in their cars 
  185. and they will void your warrenty if you do.  I think it was in QST about 
  186. a year ago.  I'll have to look back and see if I can't find it.  Good

  200. 1.  Bencher lowpass filter Model YA-1.  No box or instruction (there
  201.     is't much to it you put your transmitter on one side and antenn on
  202.     other side, that is).  It is rated at 1.5KW continous and 5kw
  203.     peak.  The unit is in very very excellent condition.  Have been
  204.     used for less then a month (I recall purchasing it in June and
  205.     Using it until July of last year)  $25 + Shipping.

  207. 2.  AEA MorseMatic morse machine.  It is not the new superduper model
  208.     but one of the first one.  I purchased it from a hamfest for $50.
  209.     Haggled it down from $75.  I think it is worth the price.  It is
  210.     in very good condition.  I have the manuals (they are kind of
  211.     photocopies as AEA used to do the business).  I really think it is
  212.     very much worht $50.  $50 + Shipping.

  214. 3.  Archer 100 Watt Soldering Gun.  I purchased it from Radio Shack
  215.     and realized that it it not enough for me and went and got a
  216.     Weller.  However it is not bad for light duty work.  You can't
  217.     beat it at the price of abosolutely free.  Free + Shipping + Cost
  218.     of packing box(which can be from $1 - $3).

  220. 4.  Yaesu MD-1C8 microphone.  Mint condition.  With box and
  221.     instruction.  Used for 4 months.  It cost $110 or so new.  It is
  222.     available if you need for $55 + Shipping .

  224. 5.  MFJ VHF 144-220 Mhz SWR/WATTMETER.  I still have the instruction
  225.     manual and the unit is in mint condition.  It is available free
  226.     for the asking + whatever shipping charges and inccur.

  228. 6.  Yaesu YH-2 Headset.  Let you use VOX on your FT-530.  Kind of
  229.     sucks and it kept getting of my ears while I jogged.  Your milage
  230.     may vary.  However it is hard to argue with because it is
  231.     available free for the asking + my shipping charges sending it to
  232.     you.

  234. 7.  E-DC-5 DC to DC converter.  I bought it so I can use my FT-530
  235.     using Cigarette Lighter in my car.  12V DC - 6V DC.  It is free
  236.     for the asking.  Howerver you pay the mailman fee because it is
  237.     cheeper for me to throw it out otherwise :-).

  239. 8.  Autek Research SWR meter.  Very excellent condition.  There is
  240.     small black mark during shipping (from the newspaper or something)
  241.     on the left side.  It is being sold over $100 by Auteck.  I have
  242.     misplaced the manual but it is not really needed.  You plug the
  243.     powersuply and XMTR on IN Side and Antenna on Out side and you are
  244.     done.  The manual also can be obtained from Auteck for $5 or so.
  245.     I found this meter order of magnitude accurate and useful then the
  246.     dinky stuff come with your rigs.  $50 + Shipping.

  248. 9.  MJF Delecux Versa Tuner II model MJF-949E.  It is in ok shape with
  249.     some paint chipping on uppper right edge.  Have hardly used it and
  250.     have misplaced its manual.  It is fairly straight forward to use
  251.     but if you have not used antenna tuners before then you have to
  252.     call MFJ to get a new manual or ask your buddy about it.  It is a
  253.     useful tool if you have real bad antenna situation.  It is (was)
  254.     selling for $140 or so.  $55 + Shipping.

  256. 10. I have around 150 feet or so of 8X coaxial cable and around 100 or
  257.     150 feet of flexweave antenna cable (great for dipoles, etc).  I
  258.     don't know the exact length but above is the size I usually order.

  261. 11. Austin Antenna Ltd's 500C dual band (2m/70cm) antenna in motorola
  262.     mount.  I have found it much better then Diamond antennas in flat
  263.     country.  Its radiation angle is very low.  It is a half wave for
  264.     70cm and offset fed 1/4 for 2m.  Free + Shipping.

  274. and COD charges".  Right.  Don't laugh as I have recieved offer like
  275. that for my previous post of FT-530.  If I could not sell some item, I
  276. will respost it with lower price but at this time I will not entertain
  277. any bargaining.

  280. shipping charges.  If it is in the padded envelope, it will be
  281. whatever postage stamcps price + .75 for the envelope (envelopes go

  386. Home brew it. That is what I did. I added a 7360 product detector and hang
  387. AGC and a synchronous AM and FM demodulator. I also tweaked it with another
  388. mixer so that I could cover an effective (sorta) 10KHz to 500KHz range, not
  389. that I have found much of a use for it other than copying Russian trawlers
  390. in the 450-500KHz range.
  391. (I also added a pair of external audio filters with 8KHz bandwidth (plus 10KHz
  392. notch) and 3.5KHz with 5KHz notch respectively. They work wonders for weak
  393. signal work.)
  394. (BTW - both the line and the local audio outputs are 600 ohm source impedances.
  395. Either use phones, true 600 ohm speakers, or add a matching transformer to your
  396. normal speaker. They made this 600 ohms output impedance with a clever use of
  397. positive and negative feedbacks on the audio amplifier.)

  411. The R-390A I have is a VERY good receiver. The only thing I would add to it at
  412. this date is a quality noise blanker. It is remarkably sensitive and for a
  413. vacuum tube set remarkably insensitive to intermodulation in actual use. I like
  414. mine enough I just spent several days reworking some of my ancient mods and
  415. renovating it to proper service. (It was a PAIN to get the VFO working. It had
  416. started sticking very badly. I had to open it all the way up and use a quality
  417. oil veru judiciously to get it back running properly free. Then the endpoint
  418. adjust slug screw lost its head. So I had to develop an external tweaker
  419. inductor to bring the endpoints into range. (The range was 4KHz too small.
  420. So it proved possible to tweak using external terminals. <phew!>) I like it.
  421.  
  422. R-388 is not worth a fraction of the cost of a good R-390A. An R-390 is a
  423. decent radio. But the difference between it and an R-390A is worth it. The
  424. R-392 is a mobile stripped down version of the R-390 series. It is "OK".

  456. well, i was trucking down the interstate yesterday (7/3) on cruise
  457. at about 70 mph, and a toyota camry was passing me, when, all of a
  458. sudden !!!***BOOM***!!! ... the drivers side rear door window blew
  459. out... scared the heck out of me... i first thought that someone
  460. had shot at me... so i went about a mile down the road before i
  461. stopped... no evidence that i was shot at (whew!)... but there 
  462. was very little glass inside the (now being called...) the exploder...
  463. apparently the pressure differential caused by the car passing me
  464. had caused the window to explode outward... i had the air 
  465. conditioner on low, but it was not a hot day, maybe around 800 f...
  466.  
  467. maybe the glass was defective or improperly stressed... has anyone
  468. else heard of the glass in an explorer exploding???
